When the world is falling apart, the artists get busy
Visual journaling with hope at the center of my practice
I’m fascinated with the color of emotions and how they express in art. This is one example done by Ava Muijen.
In the face of so many challenging moments we’re living through, I’m ever present with the question, what can I do to ease hopelessness? And, along the same vein, what can I actually control?
As Elie Wiesel wrote in his book, Night, “So now, muster your strength, and don’t lose heart. We shall all see the day of liberation. Have faith in life. Above all else, have faith. Drive out despair, and you will keep death away from yourselves.”
Of course, eventually none of us will escape death, but to me, the greater death would be that of our Spirit. I think often that if Elie Wiesel can live through something as horrifying as Hitler’s concentration camp with his Spirit in tact, then surely we can, too, at this time on the planet.
It’s truly imperative that those of us who are able choose hope as an act of courage.
One of my heartfelt missions with my little business is to spread hope through helping others reframe powerlessness into power, and to actively look for those places in our lives where these seeds can be planted and grown.
We can do this intentionally, on purpose, despite what else is going on in our lives, communities or the world at large.
We choose to be hopeful, we choose to have faith, we choose to seek out experiences of love and communion.
We don’t wait for hope to find us. We actively create it in as many forms as we can muster each and every day.
The loving creative act must be called upon in all its potential forms at this time.
I love the quote, “When the world is falling apart, the artists get busy.”
Throughout history, periods of war, political unrest, and economic turmoil have often produced significant artistic movements.
Sensitives and artistic types feel the turmoil and need somewhere to put those emotions. Pouring them into a drawing or piece of music or a poem creates an outlet and helps us to process it all. We move the energy with creative acts.
This is one of the things Saturn in Pisces is here to help us with.
When our art speaks to higher realms and expresses the world we want to live in, this is when we create new worlds into being.
We can acknowledge the burning but focus more on the visions and endeavors that lift us up through our art.
I’ve wanted to start a visual journal for many years. Lately I’ve been inspired by the many artists devoted to this craft in my Substack Notes feed, #helencstark, #carolynyoo and #samanthadionbaker to name a few. Their work is so amazing!
So I decided to dive in! But as is my way, I can’t just paint and draw the random scenes around me. I want my journal to include astrology, inspiring quotes, self-growth practices and be a heart-centered reflection of my life.
Here’s my first week’s attempt:
My journal will be my own guidebook of sorts for navigating these very intense times we’re living through, a place to go for solace and inner guidance.
Do you have a creative practice you turn to for comfort and inspiration?
Let me know where your creative energy is bubbling up. I’d so love to hear!
